The Halo story

Many people have asked how I invented the Halo Pool Vacuum so if you are interested here it is.

I have been a helicopter pilot since I was ten years old and I became a flight instructor at 17. August 18th 2001 I was in a plane crash. I suffered a broken back, punctured lung, lost my left leg, and was paralyzed on my right side. I was in the hospital for three months and in a wheel chair for another three. I had a choice to stay in bed and eat pain killers for the rest of my life or I could get up and fight. With Marlene’s help I learned to walk again over the course of a year.

Late in 2002 I had a chance meeting with a friend I hadn’t seen in years who owned a pool business. He said he had 120 pools to take care of and needed help. I told him I needed something to get me out once a week to get my strength back. He gave me ten pools to clean to see what I could do. On the second day of cleaning I was using the vacuum hose in the pool and thought to myself there has to be a better way.

I designed a new machine that would be light (because I couldn’t carry much weight) but it needed to be powerful to clean pools fast. I asked Marlene to look for a compact trolling motor. She came home with the perfect size for what I was envisioning. After a few days of engineering in the garage I finished the prototype. I hooked the new machine to a garden tractor battery and took it to the pool to try it out. After the first few seconds I knew I had what I needed to make my life easier. This pool vacuum worked better than I ever imagined.

When I needed pool chemicals or other pool maintenance supplies from SCP or Pinch-A-Penny  people who saw my machine would say “that’s cool, where can I get one?” Eventually I started to build them for people but I could not keep up with the demand. I found a company overseas to build them for me.  After two years of learning the intricacies of incorporating,  patent application, artwork and layout design, website design, manufacturing, shipping logistics, storage, and finally sales, I am happy to present to the world the HALO Pool Vacuum.

Now after being on the market for a few years it is worth noting the prototype is still working and to date I have yet to repair or replace a single unit. (I don’t count the one backed over by a work truck … sorry Bryant)

By keeping the debris out of the pool and filtration system you use less chemicals and run your pool  pump less hrs per day saving money on energy costs.

If you are doing a major storm cleanup or just regular weekly maintenance the Halo Pool Vacuum is simply the best, lightest, most efficient, least expensive pool cleaner on the market worldwide period.
